Peter Archard was the first witness called to give oral testimony before the Tribunal of Enquiry into the events of 7th May (pp. 1-34 of transcripts); Archard is questioned on the planning of the demonstration and what demonstrators expected to happen once the indictment had been fully read out, as well as offering detail on the sequence of events during Dr Inch’s extended exit from Wivenhoe House; he mis-remembers Inch as quoting Byron to the demonstrators surrounding him (it later emerges it was actually John Wesley), and refuses to be drawn on the question of ringleaders
