Sociology lecturer Dorothy Smith’s submission to the Tribunal of Enquiry into the events of 7th May is a detailed account of how she heard about the planned demonstration at Dr Inch’s lecture to the student Chemical Society, as well as what she was able to witness, first, from outside the Committee Room where the lecture was being disrupted, and subsequently, fro the car park outside; Smith is taken aback, and upset, at the turn of events following the reading of the indictment, and acknowledges she may well not have attended the demonstration had she been aware of the course it would take
