John Bentley’s oral testimony before the Tribunal of Enquiry into the events of 7th May, (pp. 278-284 of transcripts) is largely taken up with clarifying details about the attempts to escort Dr Inch out of Wivenhoe House following the disruption of his lecture to the student Chemical Society in the Committee Room; along with Colin Rogers, Bentley was for a brief moment alone with Dr Inch, who was apparently a bit lost in the corridors of the old stately home; in his written statement, Bentley had also claimed to have been hit by the police car driving Inch away from the car park afterwards, although this issue was not raised at the hearings
