Bentley’s statement for the Tribunal of Enquiry into the events of 7th May is substantial and quite detailed; Bentley claims to have been handed a copy of the indictment, to read if necessary, on his way into Dr Inch’s lecture to the Chemical Society and, further, that a friend of his was physically shoved out of the way by Dr Inch as the latter tried to make his way out of Wivenhoe House
