Chris Ratcliffe’s written statement for the Tribunal of Enquiry into the events of 7th May offers a fairly succinct summary of many of the protestors’ sense of the ambiguities surrounding the principle of free speech, as subsequently applied to the disruption of Dr Inch’s lecture to the student Chemical Society by the Registrar and the Vice Chancellor; again in common with other protestors, Ratcliffe also proposes that the demonstration achieved the aim, at least, of bringing the issue of CBW into wider public discussion
